Şeyma Keten Selim on Her Rome Wedding and Bridal Beauty

Blending in has never really been Şeyma Keten Selim’s style. When she married actor İbrahim Selim in June, she knew exactly what worked for her, and that confidence ran through her Rome wedding, from her fashion choices to her hair and makeup. Here, the content creator and YouTube Partnership Manager shares how she prepared her skin and hair for the big day.

How did you decide on your hair and makeup for your Rome wedding?

It was going to be hot, so I wanted my hair up, in a way that worked with my dress. We looked at a few romantic styles before settling on the final one. I had considered wearing it down, but honestly, there was no way I could have handled that heat.

I’ve never been one for heavy makeup, and since I didn’t want a full-on glam look, I decided to do my own makeup. I started skincare treatments months before the wedding to get my complexion in the best possible shape. By the time the wedding arrived, a healthy-looking complexion, soft eye makeup, and a pared-back lip were all I needed.

 

 

Which makeup products held up best throughout the wedding?

Did you get professional treatments before the wedding?

I started seeing my aesthetician three months before the wedding for regular under-eye mesotherapy, along with Scarlet and Babyface treatments for my skin. By the third session, the difference was incredible. We wrapped everything up two weeks before the wedding, so my skin was looking its best by the time the big day came around.

I also drank plenty of water and kept my skin clean and well hydrated day to day. And I was very serious about sunscreen. I wore it even when I was staying in, because the last thing I wanted was to deal with pigmentation.

You were such a beautiful summer bride. How did your hair and makeup hold up in the heat?

I worked with such a good hairstylist in Rome that my hair would have lasted into the next day. My curls can be a lot to handle, but they stayed perfectly in place from start to finish. I got lucky with my makeup too. I tend to sweat a lot on my face, but it barely budged. I did touch up my lipstick and concealer here and there, of course.

 

 

Did getting married in Italy shape your bridal style in any way?

Honestly, the way we live inspires everything. We’ve always loved anything romantic, and that’s a big part of why we chose Rome in the first place. It naturally found its way into every detail, from my dress to İbrahim’s suit.

Before you got married, were there any brides whose style you really loved?

I’ve always loved brides who keep things simple and understated. Kate Middleton has always been a favorite. Her look was timeless and elegant.

What does your ideal self-care day look like?

I love a good everything shower, followed by a head-to-toe moisturizing routine. Nourishing myself inside and out like that makes me so happy. I’ll make myself a big green salad with lemon dressing, then settle in with one of my favorite shows. Friends, Emily in Paris, and Younger are my comfort watches.

Are there any skincare products you’ve been loyal to for years?

There are a few I rebuy the moment they run out: Kiehl’s Avocado Eye Cream, Ultra Facial Cream, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum, and Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water.

You tend to go for fresh, glowing makeup. What are some of your go-to products?

I like to keep things simple and let a few good products do the work. Hydrating, glow-boosting formulas are my favorite, especially when they leave the skin fresh rather than sticky. Lately, it’s been Dior Prestige Le Protecteur UV Jeunesse et Lumière SPF 50+ PA++++, and a drop or two of Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Sunshine Drops mixed into my tinted sunscreen. Because I’m diligent about sun protection, the added warmth helps bring my face and body closer together in tone. I finish with Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Faith. Together, they give my skin the exact finish I love.

How do you style your short, curly hair?

I think I’m lucky here. My curls are actually pretty easy to manage as long as I keep them well hydrated. I start with an argan oil that adds moisture without weighing my hair down, then follow with Davines Curl Building Serum for pretty, defined curls.

 

Where are your favorite places to shop for beauty?

My work gives me the chance to try a lot of new products, and some of them end up becoming real favorites. I’ll buy a product once I know it’s something I’ll keep coming back to. Beymen Beauty Studio and Sephora are my favorite places to shop.

Are there any beauty tips you picked up from the women in your family?

My mom has always believed in the power of a great fragrance. She taught me early on that perfume is personal. A fragrance can smell completely different from one person to the next, so I never buy one without trying it on my skin first.
Has your perspective on beauty changed over the years?

Absolutely. I used to think beauty was about looking perfect. These days, I’m much more drawn to beauty that feels natural and effortless. To me, it’s not about being flawless or looking like everyone else. It’s about feeling like yourself, only at your best.

 

 

Have you ever had a beauty mishap?

I’m sure there have been a few, but clearly none of them were serious enough to stick with me. There was a time when colored streaks were all the rage, and I dyed a streak of mine purple. Would I do it again? Not a chance.
